Who Am I
I’m Sierra - a 30-something attorney born & raised in Nebraska. After studying at KU (Go Jayhawks!) and earning my law degree in Chicago, I returned home to the ‘The Good Life’. Within 6 months of moving home, I met my - now husband, Will. We have two goofballs, Liam (5) & Evelyn (1). When I’m not working or designing or mommying, you’ll find me on my Peloton (LB #smplans // #pelotonplanners), traveling, catching up with a friend, or writing.
brief planner history
I am a self-proclaimed planner addict since middle school, but my friends can vouch for my paper obsession dating back to elementary school! My bestie and I would beg our parents to take us to Target. We would obsessively peruse the pen and paper aisles to spot any new items. My first planner was the tacky assignment planner provided by my middle school paired with a single subject college ruled notebook where I did my own version of bullet journaling.
then ○ 2016
In undergrad, I used Moleskine Large Daily planners (all of which I still have). In law school, I used russell+hazel mini binder with their inserts, along with a Moleskine weekly. Later, I moved onto Kikki K, then Day Designer, and Emily Ley’s Simplified Planner. Now, I’m set on ring planners and faux-bujo type planner systems (personal wide rings + b6 stalogy). I LOVE ring planners because of the ability to literally curate your planner from beginning to end. It’s fun and creative.
… planner philosophy
My planner philosophy focuses on allowing one’s personality to flow throughout without apologies; functional, yet pretty; timeless, and a bit flashy. #extra It’s also deeply rooted in consistency, self-awareness, and reflection.

WHAT I DO
attorney mom (lawma)
I would’ve never guessed I’d be practicing labor & employment law (think harassment, discrimination, retaliation) at a transportation company when I graduated law school with a certificate in Intellectual Property Law (soft IP). Truth is, I chose the program because of my love for art law (Rape of Europa, anyone?) after becoming obsessed with art history in college (Rock Chalk, Jayhawk). The majority of my elective credits were spent fueling what is now only a hobby: copyright, trademark, design rights, licensing, privacy law, entertainment law, & internet law. It’s been nearly a decade since graduating, yet I still vividly remember sitting for the bar exam.
… #momlife
At my core, I’m a momma bear who, despite all the chaos, soaks up every second with her two mini-mes (or rather mini-Wills). I run our home, carrying the brunt of the “mental load” — the emotional and psychological burden of remembering to fill out school forms, pick up eggs, make doctors’ appointments, and countless little details. I’ve made many dubious choices, but Will was not one of them. I married my match. I rely heavily on Will who chips in and meets me halfway on chores, cooking (okay, he cooks, I don’t), and parenting (he’s a pro at bath time!).
owner, lead designer + planner consultant
Fueling my passion, I started designing planner inserts in the spring of 2018 for myself at the suggestion of a planner friend. I could not find what I was looking for in a weekly insert. After briefly showing my weekly insert in one of my planner flips, several people expressed interest in them. By October of 2018, I was sending PDFs piecemeal via email. I quickly realized this wasn’t sustainable and that I needed help with sending files. With a nudge of several friends, I opened my shop in December.
Since opening, I’ve had over 30,000 sales, designed 400+ custom inserts, and completed over three dozen planner consultations. It’s been a whirlwind and a great outlet for me to show my creative side! It’s a natural extension to my love for paper, planning, and design. It also is flexible. I can ramp up and down as necessary depending on how life is, if I have a trial approaching, a big family milestone, a girl’s trip, etc.
SMPLANS success is thanks to countless planner friends, like-minded paper nerds. So grateful for each of you!
